Logging in (XP Service Pack 2)

One of my colleagues is having problems login in into our network, it takes him sometimes up to 3 minutes for his profile to load. I have readded the computer on the domain and then renamed it but it did not solve the problem.

Any other ideas apart from re-installing the Operating System?

    Your help is much appreciated

Do you use roaming profiles? If so, have you checked the size of his profile?

(Roaming profiles allow a user to log into any PC on the network, which can be very handy. But it means that each time the user logs on, and also each time the user logs off, the network copy of the profile has to be synchronized with the local copy. If the profile is large, this can take some time.)

    He might try this:
    - Select Start | Run...
    - Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
    - Expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon
    - Double click "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" and set it to Enabled.

I followed your steps Hans and it slowed down the computer even more, I could not be asked to do any more troubleshooting, I just rebuild the laptop and it seems OK. Fingers crossed.

    Many thanks,
