USB & PS2 at same time?

Don't know if this is the right forum, but:

I got Acronis' Disk Director, hoping to have it handle my multi-boot scenarios. Thing is, it didn't see my wireless Microsoft laser 6000 Mouse. Acronis Truer Image does, Disk Director did not.

But my "controller" (correct name?) For the mouse has both a USB AND a PS2 connector; once I plugged in the PS2 plug, Disk Director saw my mouse. Great.

And I am using it now, with both connections plugged in still.

Can or does this cause me any issues that I need be aware of? Doesn't seem to do so, and it does resolve my Acronis problem, so I sure hope not!

Regards,
Chuck Billow

Although not quite your situation, it's close and also involves Acronis so I'll add a comment. If you were to search the Software forum you'd find more than one post about Acronis TrueImage or Disk Director involving a cordless mouse when booting either product from its "rescue CD" (Linux based). Although there is a startup key-pressing workaround for TrueImage, this one doesn't work for Disk Director. There IS a second workaround which turned up in their forums and it involves plugging in a corded mouse at the same time. I've done that one and had no ill effects from it that I'm aware of. Of course, I did not leave the corded mouse plugged in after finishing my testing. Both mice were USB.

Al:

Yea, Acronis' board says that they "pay less attention" to Disk Director... funny it wouldn't be able to use the same drivers, 'cause True Image works fine...

On the other note, I should probably just play it safe and unplug one or the other till I need again...

Thanks,

Al:

Looks like Microsoft has been down this path as well -- Both USB and PS2

Re: USB & PS2 at same time?

Doc:

Thought it interesting:

I recently got a Microsoft Laser Wireless Keyboard/Mouse 6000 v2.0.

In the original model it came with both PS2 and USB connectors on the receiver.

That worked out great as it happens,. because plugging in both connections, I end up utilizing the USB in Windows, and the PS/2 kicks in for Acronis Recovery CD, and various flavors of Linux.

In the new set I got, it only has the USB connector. I was/am able to use the original receiver with the new set, that way I have both connectors handy. But, unlike the original model, if both connections are plugged in at the same time, the O/S doesn't see the USB, so the keyboard won't work in Windows... until you unplug the PS/2.

It's odd in today's high-tech world, that there seems to be neither a solution for this conflict, nor even some type of cord/switch that would be able to eliminate having to plug/unplug the USB or PS/2 as needed.

Oh well... until the old one dies, I guess I can make do. But after that, what a pain....

Ain't it da truth... Unfortunately, there always seem to be a "few" things about life with computers that never get fixed or designed to my satisfaction.

Well Doc, as long as my "old" connector holds up, I'll be fine I guess...

I know I'm an early riser Chuck, but hey, it's only 2:30 in the AM where you are! Don't you ever sleep any?
