    Re-installing Outlook (2002)

I'm going to reformat my wife's laptop and reinstall Windows etc from scratch. I will of course reinstall Office XP and I know I can import back the contents of the existing .pst file, which is backed up, of course. If I do that, will it also reinstate the existing email accounts or will I have to set them up again? Or can I use the import email accounts and settings facility somehow - the trouble is I am not importing from either another program or another computer. (The main reason for wanting to is that I am not sure she can remember the password for one of the POP3 accounts she uses.)

Accounts are stored in the Registry, not in the PST. To export those, consider using a migration utility. I have not tried Microsoft's Files and Settings Transfer ("FAST") program, but maybe that would help. Probably there have been a few posts here you could pick up in search, and/or try the relevant Windows board (e.g., Windows XP).

    Thanks.

Fortunately, after some more digging through my wife's filing cabinet, I have found a letter containing the necessary account login details.

Now I *just* have to do the Windows reinstall!
