    TOC based on bookmarks (Word 2003)

    Hello all,

    I am trying to insert a TOC based on Table entry fields and I want to limit the TOC to only Appendix B. So I selected appendix B and inserted a bookmark called AppendixB.

    I then went ahead and created a TOC based on Table entry fields. The code looks like this:
    (TOC F H Z )

    I tried to modify the code to tell word to only put in Appendix B. After my mofications, it looked like this:
    (TOC B APPENDIXB F H Z )

    However, when I pressed F9, my TOC disappeared. Where did it go and why isn't my new code working properly?

    Sincerely,

    JMT

    I think that TOC B expects a bookmark that includes the entire range from which you want the TOC created.

    Try selecting the whole of Appendix B, then Insert > Bookmark and give it a sensible name (such as AllAppendixB), then use TOC B AllAppendixB.

    Dear Stuart,

    It seems to me that the only difference between what I did and what you suggested is the name given to the bookmark. I already selected Appendix B and gave it a name (AppendixB). When I then create a TOC, add "B AppendixB" or "B AllAppendixB" for that matter, and then press F9, the TOC disappears.

    Any suggestions?

    Your original post mentions
    <code>
    { TOC B APPENDIXB F H Z }
    </code>
    This is incorrect. Make sure that it looks like
    <code>
    { TOC B APPENDIXB F H Z }
    </code>
    In other words, a space before the backslash and *no* space between the backslash and the B.

    Can you confirm that AppendixB was a bookmark that included the whole content of Appendix B? I had assumed that it was just the heading paragraph!

    If this is not the problem then can you post a sanitised version of your document, with no private content, so we can look at it for you.

    Here is an example of a TOC that just includes the headings from Appendix B of a document.

    Dear Hans, that worked.

    Thanks also, Stuart. I didn't know how to answer your question until I realized that I could see if I had in fact inserted a bookmark by selecting it in the Insert Bookmark dialog box and selecting "go to." But AppendixB is there.
