    Pop up for groups.msn.com

If this is the wrong forum for this question, will the admin please move it to the appropriate forum. Thank you.

Yesterday I started receiving the attached popup at intermittent intervals when on the web (IE) - with no pattern of when it pops up.

Is this a known issue that can be "turned off"? It is really annoying.

Thank you for any direction on this.

Well, one possibility is that MSN really does require a login. Are you on the MSN site when this happens? Do the pages you are viewing have any content from MSN?

Another possibility is that it is a phishing dialog, generated by bad guys, meant to capture your credentials.

Hard to say without a lot more info, but a thorough set of antivirus and antispyware scans might be appropriate.

Microsoft uses their .net passport for just about everything on their domain. I have never seen that log in pop up ever even if I am not logged in. I typed in groups.msn.com knowing that I am not signed in and I didn't get that pop up. I don't think that I would sign in with that.
    Thanks John

This appears now to be happening only on one website. A message board I have been with for 5 years. [http://p080.ezboard.com/ftinnitussupport92262frm1]

I have run SpyBot, Ad Aware and my Anti-virus - nothing comes up. My machine seems the cleanest its ever been !
If it is a phishing dialog, wouldn't other members of the message board be receiving the dialog box too?

I always click the little "X" but I just wondered how to stop it from popping up at all?

*** I originally wrote the above Saturday morning but I couldn't get onto WOPR. So I am posting it today, Sunday.
Since the above was written, the pop up has mysteriously now disappeared. So once again, had I waited 2 more days, I would not have had to post the original post.
    Like I said - I love computers.

    Thanks guys for looking !

OK - I am sure there is an explanation to this, but I cannot find one. Maybe you can help me out.

The only time this happens, is at this website [http://p080.ezboard.com/ftinnitussupport92262frm1]
But here is the catch that I have somehow figured out.

I only get the popup when a certain poster's thread is on the page ! So right now, this poster's thread has moved to Page2. So when I first get to the board, page 1, there is no popup. But when I navigate to page2, there is the popup. If I click on a thread that this poster replied to, I get the popup.

Is there a way that this darn popup is somehow 'associated' to a particular poster? Seems awfully weird to me, but the scammers are usually quite creative.

I did a virus scan again and SpyBot & AdAware and nothing comes up. (Which I am happy about of course!)

It is just a nuisance, but if anyone knows what could cause this, I'd certainly appreciate your knowledge!

    Thanks !

    Michael

You can see a little square to the right of massino's username. This is a picture that failed to load. If you look at the HTML source code of the page, you'll find that the source picture is on communities.msn.com.br. Apparently you need to log in to see the picture.
