Trouble with Word Attachments (2003 with Updates)

When I send with Outlook an attachment to an email of a Word document (2003--she also has 2003), it gets sent as an *.doc document, but she receives it as an winmail.dat document (or possibly *.dot, I'm not sure), and she can't open or read it. What's going on.? I'm now on Vista Home Premium, and she's on XP.

    Thanks

That's strange, this problem is known to occur if the recipient has a different e-mail program than Outlook. Anyway, try the following:
After selecting File | Send To | E-mail address (as attachment), but before actually sending the e-mail, change the format to plain text (Format | Plain Text).

Thanks Guys: I get it. Actually, she doesn't use outlook for her email, I believe, though she does use office and word 2003. So what do you think the best practice is for sending emails from Outlook. I'd prefer to keep using Word as my editor, but could let that go if necessary. Currently I'm using HTML, but could also change that!

    Thanks

You can do one of the following:
    - Each time you send her an e-mail, change the format to plain text.
    - Specify that all e-mails *to her* should be sent as plain text (see the MSKB article).
    - Specify that *all* outgoing e-mails should be sent as plain text (in the Mail Format tab of Tools | Options in Outlook).
