Safari for Windows (Beta) (Safari 3b)

For the more adventurous out there, Apple has released a version of Safari for Windows (XP and Vista) here. Interested in hearing your experiences (I can't install it on my office PC, because it's not approved).

I downloaded it yesterday, but didn't install it yet (too busy playing Medieval II: Total War). I'm going to give it a shot tonight - though I doubt they'll get me to stop using Firefox.

I use FireFox on my office PC, and Safari at home on my Mac. I'd like to use just one, but I will have to wait until it's out of Beta before I can even try it on my PC.

Well, based on a few initial postings such as BetaNews | 'Day One' for Safari for Windows Becomes Zero-Day Nightmare, Apple Safari for Windows: The world's slowest web browser - Joel on Software, Security flaw hits Safari on Windows - vnunet.com, and others easily found on the Internet I'm going to avoid Safari for quite a while. Looks as though Apple has quite a bit of work to do before it is even worhty of a second thought.

Well, it is Beta ... I expect that it will take some time for them to get it up to their normal quality, your decision to wait is probably quite prudent.

I didn't try Firefox until around version 0.9.2, so I'm anything but an early adopter.

I wish Safari much success on Windows because the Safari developers have made CSS standards compliance a high priority, and the competition will force IE and Firefox to improve.

Or at least their interpretation of what the standards are. I hope it ends up being a worthwhile product as competition is almost always a good thing. No matter what, because of software development activities I'll have to install it sometime at work just to make sure that what we produce works in Safari.

Well, I thought that Apple put out a perfect product the first time and there was no need in having Beta

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Safari for Windows (Beta) (Safari 3b)

I don't think that is the case with Window's products. Boot Camp which allows Mac PCs to run windows is still in Beta. Mind-you QuickTime and ITunes didn't seem to require that step. Perhaps Browsers are more challenging.

If your comment was true I would be running OSX.1 and not OSX.4.9! (and soon Leopard )

Re: Safari for Windows (Beta) (Safari 3b)

Version 3.0.1 has been released. See here, However all loungers should consider their advice:

We are genuinely impressed with the swiftness of this update. Yes, it indicates Apple is serious about being an important browser contender for Windows users. But it also shows that the company is bringing the requisite urgency to providing users with products that are secure.

[b]That said, we wouldn't be at all surprised if other security flaws are discovered in Safari for Windows over the coming weeks or months. Windows users who aren't researchers or software developers may want to think twice about using Safari while it's still in beta.
