IF statement? (Excel2003)

    Hi All,
I know this is simple but I need assist.
I am trying to change the words in a spreadsheet. I need the following:
the word FALSE to = 0 (that's zero)
the word TRUE to = 1

I tried an IF statement : =IF(FALSE,0,1) this does not work. I attached a small sample of what I need, just in case I'm not explaining well enough. Thank you mucho!

    Try:

    =IF("FALSE",0,1)

    Re: IF statement? (Excel2003)

    =IF("FALSE",0,1)
It gives a 1 value for all cells....

A bit more information is needed I think, What are you trying to determine?
Do you want to know if a cell contains a number?

    Re: IF statement? (Excel2003)

The cells currently contain the words FALSE and TRUE. I want to change the value to 0 and 1. I want to change all words FALSE to 0 (zero) and all words TRUE to 1.

Sorry, I copied and pasted the wrong formula. That should have been:

    =IF(I1=FALSE,0,1)
