Windows Problem Reports & Solutions (Windows Vista)

As I booted up my Vista Home Premium, there was a note pointing to an icon on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and opened it. It shows a list of problems & reports that I had an error while updating Defender. I updated Defender about a week ago and had no knowledge of any errors or problems. Also another problem with Firefox , which I also have, and it shows solutions to problems and should I follow these recommendations? It says to shut down the computer and restart and press F8 before the Windows Vista progress indicator appears and go to the Advanced Boot options and select safe mode and so on. Should I go there to correct the Defender problem? I have not done those things before. What are your advice? Thanks.

Vista seems to be more diligent and aggressive about what it considers a problem. If your system is running OK then I'd not worry about booting into safe mode. You can delete those problem reports if you wish. Isn't there more information about what the problems are?

I checked problems and solutions in Help and Support and all problem's reports are being sent out and soultions are being researched and there are no soulutions yet except for Defender in which it shows you step by step as I explained in previous post. Would it be a good idea to take action and take advantage of it or leave it alone as you mentioned? This is the only solutions I have found out of all the other problems that my Vista could pick up. Thanks

Joe, if Vista identifies a problem (and it certainly could be unknown or transparent to the user) and provides a solution and a method to implement the solution, why would you not want to correct the problem instead of simply deleting the problem report?? <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> Isn't that much like saying "if I don't know about the problem or if I simply ignore it, it might go away"?

Not in my experience. I've already spent a number of hours trying to track down problems and solutions. I've seen many reports on non-repsonsive software and bad updates that I've just not seen in normal usage. In the instance of a Defender error causing a need to reboot in safe mode I'm skeptical. However, if a user is inclined to try the solution then I say go for it. I'm just saying that thus far I'm less than enthused about the whole process.
