Did a person do this? (Access 2003)

I had a call the other day about a database suddenly throwing errors doing a common process that has worked well for a long time.

When I looked behind the scenes I found that the design of the table had been changed.

In tblItems with primary key ItemID autonumber, I found that ItemID was now just a number field, and a new field just called ID (autonumber) was now the primary key. So any new records had a null value in ItemID so were creating the problems.

Furthermore tblItems had had only been created that evening. There was another table tblItems_old with the original structure, and the same number of records.

Is there any explanation for this other than that the person doing the data entry did it?
(While the database window is hidden, there is nothing in this db to stop someone from unhiding it.)
    Regards
    John

It seems extremely unlikely that Access itself would create a copy of the table, rename the copy, and change the structure of the original table. My guess would be that the user tried something out and messed it up.

    Thanks Hans

That makes sense to me, but no one will admit to doing it!

The appropriate error codes for this are:

    ID 10 T

    or

EBCAS (Error Between Chair And Screen)
