Junk Mail Filter (2007)

Has anyone else noticed a decrease in the effectiveness of Outlook's Junk E-mail filter in the last week or so? Prior to this, almost all spam was being identified and moved to the Junk E-mail folder. I have my protection level set to high, but lately I'm having to manually "add to blocked sender's list" many many items each day.

Check to see "Who" is sending the spam, someone in your contacts may have been spoofed, including your own email accounts.

That's not the problem Dave. The problem is that the Junk Filter is not picking up many of the very obvious spams. As I said, prior to this, the filter was doing a great job (including the occasional false positive). For the past week or so however, many are being missed - including in some cases, duplicates of spams which do get moved to the Junk E-mail folder.

I have not been seeing anything like that and my Office 2003 is up to date.

Thanks Dave. I'm running 2007 but I would think that the Junk Mail filters would be similar, if not the same, on both.

I am using Windows Mail on my laptop with Vista. I have not seen any problems with the junk filter on it, but Outlook 2007 filters may be different.

Spammers constantly test against widely used filters and when they find a way to evade them, they pump up the volume. Microsoft should release an update within a few weeks to address the new techniques. Assuming they are aware of them.
