VPN access with Bufflo G45S router (XP)

    Hi,

I am using Cisco VPN Client 4.6.02 to connect network at work. VPN works if I direct connect computer with Motorola Router, but it's doesn't work with Buffulo G45s router. The VPN Client shows it connects, but I can't map the network drive at work. I am able to ping the ip address at work.

    Please help.

    Thanks

    Regards

What happens? Do you get an error message? There could be restrictions placed on a VPN connection by the work admin.

    Hi Joe,

No, no any error message. VPN clicents shows connected and I am able to see IP address & subnet of work.

However, I can't map the drive and I can't access any application that on the work server.

I don't have any problem with VPN if I use modem.

    Thanks

Then your router is probably blocking a required port.

I'm not sure what port needs to be opened. How about checking the configuration on the old router, then configure the new one with the same ports open.

Depending on exactly which VPN protocol(s) are in use, this can involve rather more than opening a single port. See for example http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/vpn/firewallports.html.

Many firewalls will only allow you to specify TCP and UDP ports to be opened, so won't let you configure the ports on that list. A good firewall understands the protocols involved in VPN connections and will look inside the TCP packet used to initiate the connection and then enable the returned GRE packet.
