    What Is Where? (MSO 2003)

Is there any type of list somewhere that delineates which Outlook params are kept where?

I mean, for instance, that the rules are part of the PST file, yet the actual "linking" to the e-mail is stored in the Cocuments and SettingsUserApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook folder; the e-mail addresses are stored in the registry, and so on?

It would certainly help in defining backup strategies and moving or copying Outlook files to another PC to be able to detail out the locations of the various parts...

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

E-mail profiles are stored in the registry, in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrent VersionWindows Messaging SubsystemProfiles.

Here is a list (possibly incomplete) of files used by Outlook. You may not have all of them, depending on your customizations.

    <table border=1><td valign=top>Outlook data files</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook*.pst</td><td valign=top>Toolbar and menu customizations</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftOutlookOutcmd.dat</td><td valign=top>Navigation Pane settings</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.xml</td><td valign=top>Registered Exchange extensions</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookExtend.dat</td><td valign=top>Outlook contacts nicknames</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftOutlook*.nk2</td><td valign=top>Print styles</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftOutlookOutlprnt</td><td valign=top>Signatures (.rtf, .txt, .htm)</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftSignatures</td><td valign=top>Stationery (.htm)</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftStationery</td><td valign=top>Custom forms</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftForms</td><td valign=top>Templates</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftTemplates*.oft</td><td valign=top>Send/Receive settings</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftOutlook*.srs</td><td valign=top>Macros</td><td valign=top>Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftOutlookVBAProject.otm</td></table>

    Hans:

So except fro the email profiles, all else is in the two folders "Cocuments and Settings<user>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook" and "Cocuments and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftOutlook"?

    That's certainly do-able.

    Thanks,
    Chuck Billow

Those two folders contain almost all Outlook-related files, with the exception of Outlook templates, forms, signatures and stationery, any of which you may or may not use.

    hans:

Signatures I don't use, stationary I've found, templates' and forms' default locations can be found when they are modified and subsequently saved, yes?

What is your point? I thought you wanted to know which files to backup or transfer.

Just that therefore that would be all I would seemingly need , so I'm all set then.

    Sorry for the fog...
