The title of “Entrepreneur of the Year” was awarded to Brian Livingston, editor of the Windows Secrets Newsletter, at the 6th annual Internet Content Summit in New York City on May 8, 2006.

The conference — sponsored by MarketingSherpa.com, a research firm for the marketing industry — bestowed the award because of the newsletter’s advocacy of a “contribution model” for online content.
The newsletter allows anyone to upgrade from its free version to its paid version by making a contribution of any amount the reader feels it’s worth. This allows affluent readers, who contribute higher amounts to support the publication’s research into Windows, to subsidize less-fortunate readers who can’t contribute as much.

The conference brings together hundreds of attendees who offer premium content on the World Wide Web. Speakers other than Livingston at the 2006 summit included representatives of NYTimes.com, Reuters.com, ConsumerReports.org, and similar large subscription sites.
