USB drives mysteriously end up write-protected
Allan Wallace is trying to make his thumb drives useful again.
“I have had three USB drives with the same problem, which I cannot cure. Somehow, each USB drive has made itself write-protected. I can see files on the drives, but I can’t delete, move, or change them. Nor can I format the drives.
“When I try to do anything but read the files, a popup tells me the device is write-protected and to remove the write-protection to continue. These are standard 16GB and 32GB USB drives.
“I’ve searched the Net for answers, but none of the cures I’ve tried works. I’d love to get them back to normal condition. Can you help?”
