Every month, we get one or two reader letters asking about the relationship between our stories and our ads. To put it bluntly, there isn’t any.
As with all reputable publications, the editorial team at Windows Secrets does not select or promote the products advertised in the newsletter. As is standard practice, the only products we recommend are those mentioned by our contributors in their columns. And it goes the other way, too — we never recommend products in our stories because they are or might become advertisers.
Not to sound too much like a National Public Radio pledge drive, but Windows Secrets ads comprise a relatively small — but still important — portion of our revenue. It’s primarily our paid subscribers that keep Windows Secrets coming to your inbox week after week. It’s their generous support that lets unpaid subscribers receive a portion of the newsletter. To all those who have made donations, our deep thanks. As always, the amount you contribute is up to you.
Speaking of the editorial team, you have by now seen numerous Lounge Life columns written by Kathleen Atkins. Kathleen was hired this past January as our associate editor. She comes to the newsletter with many years of experience as a writer and as an editor of books for Microsoft Press. She has what we look for in a WS editor: a deep and unbiased understanding of Microsoft (and other personal computing) products and technology.

One of the new truths about technology is that it changes with amazing speed. Wonderful as the wheel was and is, digital technology doesn’t roll like that — it tends to rocket. Windows evolves (definitely for the better, this time), new security threats leap at us, innovative and interesting hardware and software enhance our computing life, and going online moves beyond the keyboard to a fascinating array of mobile devices.
