| By Susan Bradley This month’s Patch Tuesday is a fairly boring Patch Tuesday! But just to keep you a little bit entertained this month, we do have Daylight Saving Time patches to deal with. |

Patching dear old Clippy is a top priority
In this light patch month, the only patch Microsoft rates “Critical” is for Windows 2000. I’m going to urge you to patch quickly for this one, which is identified as MS07-051 (938827).
Microsoft Agent is better known to you and I as “Clippy,” the annoying paperclip helper that used to knock on our computer screens and give us unsolicited advice. We’ve patched it before and this month we’re patching it again.
I’d like to recommend that if you’re still running Windows 2000, please take extra care with this older platform. Understandably, Windows 2000 is still needed in many businesses. In a home setting, however, it’s wiser to use Windows XP, while of course observing the WSN Security Baseline recommendations for antivirus, antispyware, and firewall add-ons.
To be sure, Windows XP does suffer from Windows Genuine Advantage, nagware that many Windows Secrets readers have expressed dismay over. However, if you leave Automatic Updates set to “download but do not install,” the only WGA download you should be prompted with is an ActiveX update that actually makes WGA more well-behaved.
