Although Win10 is capable of excellent performance, it can run slowly on some systems — even on new “Made for Windows 10” PCs!
If you want more speed from your current Win10 setup, or you’re thinking of getting a new Win10 PC this holiday season, here are the major performance-sapping pitfalls you can avoid.
The performance you should get from Win10
Win10 is the first version that did not exact a substantial performance penalty, compared to previous Windows releases.
In fact, benchmark tests show that a properly set-up Win10 PC can run at about the same speed — or even slightly faster — than Win7 or Win8.1 on the same hardware. See, for example, Aug. 6, 2015, LangaList Plus, “Surprising results from early Win10 benchmarks.”
When Win10’s performance is sub-par, it’s often not due to an issue with the operating system, but rather it’s with other factors such as the way the PC is set up and used.
Here are five common problems with Win10 performance — and solutions for each of them.
