Hidding and protecting cells with formulas (xp & 2003)

Is it possible to have cells with formulas in them and hide the formulas and also protect those same cells from being overwritten while still having the rest of the worksheet available for entering data?

Yes. By default, all cells in a worksheet are locked, but this only becomes effective when you protect the worksheet.

    1) Unlock cells
    - Select the cells that the user should be able to edit.
    - Select Format | Cells...
    - Activate the Protection tab.
    - Clear the check box labeled Locked.
    - Click OK.

    2) Hide formulas
    - Select the cells with formulas.
    - Select Format | Cells...
    - The Protection tab should still be active.
    - Tick the check box labeled Hidden.
    - Click OK.

    3) Protect the sheet.
    - Select Tools | Protection | Protect Sheet...
    - In the dialog that appears, you can specify what the user is allowed to do.
    - You should leave "Select unlocked cells" ticked, the rest is up to you.
    - If you wish, you can specify a password that will be needed to unprotect the sheet.
    - Click OK.
    - If you specified a password, you will have to retype it as confirmation.

If you want to change something later, select Tools | Protection | Unprotect Sheet.
