    One Million Files (WinXP SP2)

My Dell Dimension 8400 was bought February 2005 and I don't consider that I have too, too much on the system. (I may be wrong, though.) And I keep it pretty well cleaned up. My Norton virus scan, however, reports that it has scanned over one million files! Seems a bit much to me. Is that normal? Is there a way I can find out where and what all these files are?

I think Norton counts every "item" scanned as a separate file, including registry entries. It reports scanning over 500,000 "files" on my PC, but Windows Explorer or a program such as TreeSize Free from JAM Software report only about 70,000 files. You can use the latter to find out which folders contain the largest number of files.

    Hans,
Thanks for the tip. The JAM Software works great.

I think it probably also counts the individual files contained within ZIPped and CAB files, to make the number look more impressive!
