    Protecting Document with Embedded Excel (Word97 - Windows 98)


    I have embedded an Excel Spreadsheet in a Word document, but I need check boxes in other areas of the form that I am creating using tables. I have created 2 continuous section breaks in order to separate the check box area that I need to protect from the embedded Excel sheet. When I protect (only section 2), I can't enter info into the Excel spreadsheet. Any ideas?

    Hi, geneword. I can't test for 97, but it does work in 2000 <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>... not much help there.

    I ran a search of Word 97 in the using edit excel object protected form and indicating All words and found <A target="_blank" HREF=>WD97: Post Service Release Fixes for Word 97... which lists

    When you move the insertion point into a table cell within an unprotected section from a protected form section that contains macro code that runs on exit from the protected cell, an exception access violation occurs.<hr>
    That article sounds as if it may have been on-point but, of course, that article is no longer available... <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>. Anyway, if that brief description sounds like your problem, and you haven't installed the SRs, you may do well to try that.
