There's a blank table field that's above another table (that has an Excel chart in it). I want to delete the blank table that is directly "on top of" the filled in table. I click the left-hand table-cross tool icon that pops up to the upper left of the table field, and choose cut table. "The selection is marked as deleted text" is the message I get, and the table doesn't dissapear. The problem is is that this blank table field continues from the bottom of the 1st page to the top of the 2nd, and displaces report text from the bottom of the first page to the top of the second, which looks terrible.

How can I delete a blank table field?

Sounds like you have Track Changes turned on. Turn it off, then try deleting the table.
