# Thread: Divide total by fraction

1. I need to sum a column and divide that sum by 9/11ths. How do I do that in Excel 2003?

2. Do you mean something like:

=SUM(B:B)/11*9

?

3. For column F use =sum(F:F)/11*9

VegasNath's formula got transposed into a smiley

4. Well, at least when I initially looked at it it was a smiley, it looks normal now........hmmmmmmmmmmm

Stuart kindly edited my post and corrected my mistake. Thanks Stuart.

6. The other guys have shown you the method of decimalising the fraction but you can do it by formatting the particular cell as a Fraction and select Up to two digits (21/25)

You can create the formula as:

=sum(D15)/(9/11)

where 9/11 is your fraction

Please note that the formula provided by Jerry =sum(D15)/(9/11) is correct; the two previous posts from Nathan and Stans multiplied the sum by 9/11.
