    I would appreciate advice as to how to disable autorun.

    My OS is Win 7 Pro 32 bit.

    Autoruns is a standalone non installable application program.
    Run the application, replace all the checkmarks that you may have foolishly removed. Then simply delete the application.

    @Clint: Rerhaps Roy is referring to the "automatically run/install programs when you insert a CD/DVD"... "Autoplay"?

    Disable Autorun For Removable Media In Windows 7

    Type "Gpedit.msc" in the Start run box, and then press ENTER.
    Under Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, and then click Autoplay Policies.
    In the Details pane, double-click Turn off Autoplay.
    Click Enabled, and then select All drives in the Turn off Autoplay box to disable Autorun on all drives.
    Restart the computer.
