I know this is possible in FrameMaker, just not sure about MS Word.

Is there a way to connect a graphic to a "Note" style, such that when I insert a note on a page, a default graphic automatically appears on the page, to the left
of where the text note will go?

If yes, then I would appreciate the procedure on how to do this.

    Thanks in advance.

At least as of Word 2003, not really. You can import an image to use as a "bullet" in a list, and save that in a style definition, but it's not easily possible to arbitrarily size or position the image.

Perhaps you could create an AutoText entry pre-formatted to your specifications and insert that when you want a note accompanied by an image? I'm not sure where AutoText entries are in Word 2010, but they may be part of or now incorporated into the same area as Building Blocks or Quick Parts.
