I assume it will also come via Windows Update? That's how I got the previous version!

He probably was looking for a version number in the file name or download description on the web site to determine whether he needed to download the file or he is already up to date. I agree with him that Microsoft should have provided some indication of revision number. A revision history with a small description of program changes would be nice as well.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was looking for. I just used Joe's.
I have a few MSE versions saved to a directory and I would prefer the version number be part of the label name.

    Thanks Ted,

I checked my versions and they show as

    Security Essentials Version: 2.0.657.0
    Antimalware Client Version: 3.0.8107.0

Other versions were the same or later.

I clicked on check for software updates and was informed that I should use Windows Update. So I did and there is no new version available.

Is this just a minor update that may be getting held back until patch Tuesday before appearing through WU I wonder?

Well, it's more than a signature update, but not a whole version update (v2.x.x.x -vs- v3.x.x.x) Unsure if it's a major or minor update, but I do not feel comfortable waiting for WU for my security tools if I know of an update.
