I'm using Word 2010. I have a macro that I created in Word 2007 that references Excel.

Dim xlApp As Excel.Application

In the past, if someone wanted to use this macro, I would give them instructions to add the Excel reference in VBA. If they didn't use the macro, there was no problem - all other macros worked fine.

Suddenly, when I provide my template to users of Word 2007, nothing will compile because it gets hung up on that missing reference, even when the user is not accessing that particular macro.

1. Did something change in Word 2010? Why did this work without a problem for years.

2. Is there a way to get around this? I don't want to force people to add that reference if they're not going to use the macro. There are hundreds of other macros that need to be available.

Thanks for any advice!
