# Thread: 3 men and a hotel room

1. ## 3 men and a hotel room

3 guys rent a hotel room costing \$30 or \$10 a piece for the night. Later, the manager realizes that he had overcharged them; the room was only \$26 per night. So he gave the bellhop \$4 and told hime to give it back to the men. Instead, the bellhop gave each man \$1 back and kept the fourth one for himself. Now, since each man got \$1 back, that means they each paid \$9. If you total their contribution, 3 x \$9 = \$27, plus the \$1 that the bellhop kept, \$28 dollars is accounted for.

Who has the last 2 dollars (\$30)?

2. Wow! Currently 34 views and not a bite.

P.S. I did not do a forum search to find if this riddle has already been posted. Please excuse if so.

3. The math is flawed, it's not 3x9 plus one dollar, it's minus 1 one dollar that the bellhop kept, which balances.

4. Ya, I knew it but just left it hang so more folks could have a crack at it. I'm sure a lot of others did the same. I haven't looked up how to do the spoiler button yet.

5. {spoiler}text{\spoiler} Just replace the curley brackets with square brackets "[]"

Just a Tidbit: The was based on a famous scam I believe in the 1930's-1940's

6. Inflation!

7. ....And we're still falling for it today!
