How to delete "Choose an Operating System" from Win 8.1 startup?

In a DIY desktop I initially installed Windows 8, then Windows 8.1. So far so good, but I have this annoyance during bootup. It pauses on the blue screen for up to 30 seconds while giving me a choice of running Windows 8.1 or "Earlier version of Windows" (presumably Win 8). I just ran disk cleanup to dump Windows.old, but the startup sequence still has that choice.

So... how do I get rid of that bleeping "Earlier version of Windows" and boot without the pause. (I know I could set the pause timer to 1 second, but I'd rather get rid of that altogether.)

    Thanks for any help.

Control Panel > System > Click on Advanced System Settings > Uncheck box next to "Time to display list of operating systems"
