    Unknown Icon in Taskbar

    Dell Inspiron N4010 - Windows 7

Unknown icon in the taskbar (please SEE ATTACHED IMAGE).

It appeared while logged onto private, secured home-network
No other users have access to the network.

    The icon is unresponsive:

I clicked, double-clicked, right-clicked, and hovered over the icon - Nothing happened.
I closed all running programs and ended unnecessary background processes - Nothing happened.

When I disconnected from my home-network, the icon disappeared within seconds.

What is it?! Is it malicious?

If you click on the Up arrow in the system tray and select Customize or go Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Notification Area Icons it will open the window where you can set the Notifications and will also give a brief description of the icon.

You can also opt to Turn system icons on or off via the blue link.

Try out Sudo's method and post back the name of the icon. Or else, THIS link shows you how to clean the Notification Area Icon Cache. I tried it on my PC and it removed many useless and obsolete icons for programs I no longer have installed. Read the article fully though, because you might need to configure the Notification Area again to display your required icons.
