    Word 2013 won't start

I have solved this. I needed to update the VMWare Tools on my virtual machine.

I use VMWare, and I created a new virtual machine last week, with Win 7 of the OS. I installed and activated Office 2013. I started Word at the time, and everything went well. I updated the office installation.

Today when I start Word, it fails to start: I'm given the choice of having Word look for a soluation or closing Word. Both ultimately close Word. If I start Word in Safe mode, I can go to the Add-ins tab and see that there are no add-in at all.

I've Google'd this issue, and find something about hardware acceleration of video cards. That doesn't mean anything to me.

Has anyone had experience with this problem? Can you offer any advice?

    Thanks.

Your first sentence contradicts the rest of the post. Is it solved or is it not solved?

Going by his last edited reason, it's solved - but it isn't very clear.

What, then, is the proper way to indicate that I have resolved an issue?

The way I read this thread was that a previous problem had been resolved but had returned today.

This article may apply to your computer http://www.wikihow.com/Turn-off-Hardware-Acceleration

You can also click on Word in Programs and Features and select Change/Repair to see if that will also solve the start up problem.

Hi Richard - To indicate a problem is resolved, just add the info as an edit to the end of your post, not the beginning. You can also - if you wish it to be even clearer - click on the Thread Tools dropdown and choose Mark this thread as solved.

    Hope this helps...
