My wife Angela has a Win8 Laptop.

Somehow we seem to have duplicate identical "Documents" folders on the system, one in the normal place under Users/Angela, and one under Users/Angela/Downloads. They both have identical structures, and no. of files from checking Properties. A file saved in one seems immediately in both! It is confusing to say the least. I originally thought this may have happened if the folder have been inadvertently dragged and copied in the Windows Explorer window, especially as the locations are close to one another.

Further Word 10 installed on the system when bought thinks, certainly now thinks the "Users/Angela/Downloads/Documents" folder is the default one for work, and it is not able to be changed to another location under the Excel Save Options. No macros are used and no special backup/save options are employed.

Any suggestions to explain this?
