Can't make excel 2010 start with default template

    MS Office Pro 2010 SP2 / Windows 7 Pro

I do not seem to be able to make Excel auto-load its default template.

From Excel help and various MS support pages, I am fairly sure that I am doing what is recommended.

I open Excel, right-click Format Cells in one cell, check that it is what I want as my default numerical format - _(* # ##0.00_);_(* (# ##0.00);_(* "-"_);_(@_) - then Format Paint it to the entire sheet. I verify that the desired number format is applied to other cells in the sheet.

    Then, I save that as "book.xltx" in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Exce l\XLSTART.

Next time I open Excel, the number formatting has reverted to what I had before.

    What am I missing?

I just had a similar problem with my Personal template. I found this tip on the Web and it worked for my problem. try saving the book as an xlsa.

    Hope it works for you
