Separate PST for COntacts in Outlook 2016

Am I correct in that if I export my contacts form Outlook 2016 to a PST file I can then set that file as the default data file? This, it would seem, would make backing up Contacts (and Calendars, even though I do not use the Calendar in Outlook), a good deal easier, and for that matter safer, since the contacts then would not be reliant upon the OST-cache of IMAP.

What I see: I just went to see if this would work, and I see both the Contacts1 folder (set up by Outlook during installation) and the Contacts folder which I set up and then moved all my contacts from the Contacts1 folder so that Contacts91 is empty. Do I need to back up both these folders, since the one is empty, or will the folder with the contacts in it be sufficient?

Also, I don't see a way to back up both the Contacts and the Calendar into a single PST unless I back up the entire OST file. Is that so?
