    Update problem Windows 7 Pro.

I am trying to help my son with his PC which last ran and updated 2014/08/17.
I ran check for updates, and obviously it runs and runs. When I eventually come to check the progress
I find the PC restarts itself, but shows no updates. I then run check for updates again and the same
    thing happens.

I am trying to update his machine so he can upgrade to Windows 10.

Please any help will be great.

    Dave

If the desired end result is Windows 10, why waste the time trying to update Windows 7? Why not just use the Media Creation Tool to create installer media and do an in-place upgrade? Far less trouble and less time-consuming than trying to sort out Win 7's Windows Update issues, IMO.

    Hope this helps...

I've factory reset a Win 7 laptop in preparation to upgrade to Win 10 but have given up on getting any updates for it.

The reason I had to factory reset it was because it belonged to one of my sons and daughter in law and had their accounts and stuff on it.

I've created a system image of its current state and am in the process of downloading the Win 10 ISO from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/soft...load/windows10 to create a bootable disk and then will use the Upgrade now button when that has been done.

EDIT - knew I shouldn't have started that download this late

Hi Rick, thanks for the info. Never thought I could do it that way.
Thought everything had to be updated first.
    Regards
