Restore/View Win7 backup files on external drive

Currently on Win 7, whose Backup and Restore function I use to backup all data and some exe files to an external drive. Before too long I guess I'll have to bit the bullet and move to Win10.

Is it safe for me to assume that Win10 will have no problem accessing and manipulating these files when the time comes? Are there any measures that I should be taking now to ensure I have no problems?

IMNVHO you would be wise to move to an imaging program like Macrium Reflect [free version, unless you wish to pay for the file features], and make provision for other file copying programs, such as SyncBack or Allway Sync or even (advt!) a BATch file running Robocopy.
