field codes not running on open

    Hi,
I have a table where there is a SUM formula. it works fine, but would like it to run when the file is opened. I have checked the "update automatic links at open".

    any other thing I'm missing?

The 'update automatic links at open' option relates to links to external files, not internal references. Unless you add a macro to the document to update fields, what you want isn't going to happen. Regardless, having such a macro seems pointless unless you have a date/time-related calculation or the document has been subject to edits that change the pagination or add more headings for a TOC, since you'd generally expect the fields to show the correct content. This is especially so in a document using formfields.

    Hi Paul,
I'm using a form that i have sales people fill out and send to me and others. There are SUM formulas to do some totaling. I can't count on the sales people to "update" the codes and the other people who get this file likely won't know how to, so I was trying to automate it somehow.

But then you'd also need to rely on others allowing the macro to run...

A simple workaround might be to have a button somewhere on the form they can click to say everything is done - it doesn't actually have to do anything - and you tell them to click on that once they've finished the data entry. That'll ensure they leave the last field and, so, get all the calculations updated.
    Cheers,
