Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

Hmm... long story short, I'm back after several weeks illness... part of which was the idea that a trip to Marseille was BEST IDEA EVER.

If I'd had my wits together at the time I would have discovered beforehand that:

    1. Pastis 51 is no cheaper in Marseille than in the discount warehouses of the much, much closer Calais (or even Adinkerke in Belgium).
    2. Despite the 'single market', Customs and Excise are no longer as forgiving of cars stuffed with wine and spirits if there's the slightest doubt about whether it's for personal use. Huge warnings about the possible confiscation of said vehicles. Oo-er!

So, in the end it turned out to be quite impractical.

That won't be a problem once you leave the EU, or will it?

    cheers, Paul

That's a good question... to which I have neither insight nor answer.

Put it like this... being IN the EU has brought no discernible benefit in terms of the cost of my favourite over-priced French aperitif. I suspect the situation will not change one iota when (or if) we are OUT of the EU.

That's like driving from Dallas to Chicago -- a L-O-N-G drive!

If you are with a good friend, it will be fun.

Will they still take your money if you are out of the EU? And you'll likely need your passport and a visa to be able to get into the EU.

I think the answers are 'yes' and 'yes'... but I don't know of a single agreement that has yet been reached about 'how' the UK will leave the EU, only 'when'. I think bluffs, tantrums and posturing have assumed more importance than discussion so we'll have to wait and see. It could be a very long wait.

There's also the real risk, IMO, that - depending on the outcome of the German Federal Elections in September and other up-in-the-air situations (like the Schengen Agreement) - the EU itself may not survive in its present form.

Sometimes the wait is more difficult that the actual outcome.
