Can't Clear "View Downloads" When IE Opens

Got an Acer netbook running Win 7 that only has IE installed. Whenever I try to open IE, a window opens that says "View Downloads - Internet Explorer." There is a button that says Clear List, but it doesn't work. Next to the download listed, there is a dropdown button that says Save (and apparently would give me other options if the dropdown arrow worked), no joy there either. All that works is the button to Close the window. How can I get rid of this window and just get a "normal" IE window?

Can you click on it and then on End Task and then reboot to see if it comes back.

If it does, then click on the Tools cog - Internet options and under the Advanced tab select Reset and check all of the boxes.

If you can't get to the Tools cog in IE then go Start - type inetcpl.cpl then press enter and that will get you the same Internet options window.

This requires a reboot but should remove any rogue settings/add-ons.

You will need to reset your home page probably as well as perhaps your default search provider as that will probably have been changed to Bing.

Thanks, John - it didn't seem to tally with what I'd posted in accessing the IE options.
