Headers and Footers in a Protected Document (Word 2K)

    Good morning everyone!

I am in the process of designing a document that has both protected and unprotected sections for use as a template for several people in my work group. I realized yesterday (to my chagrin) that if one puts even a single protected section in the document, the header and footer are "locked". Is there something I can do to make the header and footer accessible. The header does not exist on the first page but must exist on the rest of the document and the footer must appear on every page.

First make sure that you need to "unlock" them at all.

You can easily set up your document to have a different (no) header/footer on the first page. You can use styles and the StyleRef field to have your headers and footers change on other pages to fit contents.

Otherwise, you'll have to do some VBA programming and build a custom toolbar/menu command.
