Documents with extra words (Word 2000 sr 1)

I have a user who came back from vacation and opened some existing Word documents on her computer. They contained much extraneous text such as heading1 heading1 and other odd things. If I created a new document on her computer, saved it and then opened it, this new doc also has the text. These same documents however can be opened on another computer with no problem.

I deleted her -- no change. Then I uninstalled and then re-installed Office 2000. Still no good.

    What to do...

The "Recover text from any file" filter is being used to open the files. In File Open, change the file type drop-down back to Word document.
