# Thread: Round up formula (Excel XP)

1. ## Round up formula (Excel XP)

Is there a formula I can use to round up a number For example 1.21 would round to 2 instead of with the round function which would retun 1..

2. ## Re: Round up formula (Excel XP)

=CEILING(A1,1)

3. ## Re: Round up formula (Excel XP)

Anpther option to Ceiling is the Excel function called Roundup which does what exactly you want. See the Excel help topic for the syntax and options. <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16> <img src=/S/flags/NewZealand.gif border=0 alt=NewZealand width=30 height=18>

4. ## Re: Round up formula (Excel XP)

Many thanks to all, Out of curiousity why the 2 functions, any real difference or use??

5. ## Re: Round up formula (Excel XP)

CEILING(a,n) rounds a up to the nearest higher multiple of n, for example CEILING(2.33,0.05) returns 2.35 and CEILING(2.33,1) returns 3.

ROUNDUP(a,n) rounds a up to n decimals, for example ROUNDUP(2.33,1) returns 2.4

6. ## Re: Round up formula (Excel XP)

many thanks for the education

7. ## Re: Round up formula (Excel XP)

=round(a1+0.5,0) where a1 contains the target number also works:
1.21 2
3.89 4
568.3 569
457825.7 457826
but this one may not be what you had in mind!
4 5
