Cannot delete empty paragraphs (Word 2000 SP1)

I have a document (Just one) that I cannot delete any 'extra' paragraph marks from.

This seems very odd. if I hit the enter button to insert a new paragraph I can delete that one. But any of the paragraph marks that are already in the document I cannot delete. This is an old 200 page document that was created in Word 97 but I don't think that is the problem.

The document is not protected as I can delete all of the text surrounding the paragraph marks. I was thinking that maybe this document is corruptted?

Any one heard of this before?

    Thanks in advance,

What happens of you insert a few extra paragraphs before and after an existing empty paragraph, select them together and try to delete them?

I regularly see this when changes are being tracked. Can you verify that the document is not revision tracking - what colour is the TRK in the status bar (grey or black). If it is black, then double click it to turn off revision tracking.

My guess is that if you reveal the tracked changes you will discover something like a deleted section break close to that paragraph mark that you can't delete.
