    Office Web, 2003

As anyone tried the "office web components 2003" on any office files? I do a lot of Excel VBA and these apps do not play well at all when launched from a browser. The MS site says these components "are a collection of COM controls for publishing spreadsheets, charts, and databases to the web." I wonder how this works on the server side (both Windows and Unix web servers).

It seems that the Office Web Components (OWCs) change significantly between each version of Office, so I wouldn't really hazard a guess as to what they're up to now. Since the components are client side and are not licensed for redistribution over the web (at least with earlier versions they weren't), it should not matter whether the server is Windows or *nix. All that the server needs to do is embed the <object> tag in the HTML.
