    choose highlight colour & select column

    excel 97

    I'm a novice to excel.
    In Word there is a highlight button on the formatting toolbar which allows you to choose the colour of the hightlight & then highlight the selection.

    I was wondering if excel has this feature as I want to highlight a selected column.
    Can this be done?

    Select the cells you wish to highlight then select format cells and patterns select an appropriate color and press OK

    Further to your question if you select view toolbars and select formatting, You will get a little color bucket on your toolbar which will do the same thing. You can select a color by clicking the little down arrow next to the bucket that color will remain as the selection so you just have to click the bucket the next time.
