1. ## Two-way Formula (2003)

Loungers - I need your assistance (again). I'm sure this is a simple issue, but I can't figure it out.
I want to be able to but a value "x" in say A3, but only if there is a text in A1 & A2 - if not not keep A3 blank.

2. ## Re: Two-way Formula (2003)

Try this formula:

=IF(OR(A1="",A2=""),"","x")

If A1 or A2 is empty (or both), the result is an empty string, otherwise it is "x". Post back if you meant something else (for example "text in A1 & A2" as opposed to a number or date)

3. ## Re: Two-way Formula (2003)

Something like:

=IF(AND(ISTEXT(A1),ISTEXT(A2)),x,"")

Hans
Thanks for the quick reply - thats works fine - Your efforts are very much appreciated

5. ## Re: Two-way Formula (2003)

John, Thanks for you help - I plugged in the formula but got a #NAME? error

Any thoughts?

6. ## Re: Two-way Formula (2003)

Put quotes around the x in John's formula:

=IF(AND(ISTEXT(A1),ISTEXT(A2)),"x","")

This version only displays x if both A1 and A2 contain a non-empty text value. If at least one of them is blank or contains a date or number, the result is blank.

Thanks Hans!

Sorry, I was expecting 'x' to be a value or a cell reference, not text.
