    New computers coming (XP)

Sometime in the next couple weeks, I'll be moving my coworkers and myself into new computers. I'm running XP, and will be moving into another XP machine. They'll both be getting XP machines, both currently running 2000. What's the least painful way to recreate their environments in the new computers?

    Re: New computers coming (XP)

Microsoft has migration tools in the Windows XP Resource Kit. I don't have any personal experience with them, however. Maybe start here:

Step-by-Step Guide to Migrating Files and Settings

There also are tools oriented towards IT Departments that have different or easier-to-use functionality. I'm not aware of any products that are free for centralized use, but you could take a look at Personality Tranxport Professional AKA PT Pro, from Tranxition. Other competitors in the space include Altiris PC Transplant Solution and Desktop DNA Professional from Miramar Systems (I can't find a working URL at the moment).

    Hope this helps.
