Columns cause page break? (Word 2003)

Is this a bug? Make a new document; add 3 lines: R, S, T; highlight lines S & T; Format to 2 columns. All is OK. Now add a footnote to R. At this point lines S&T jump to the top of a new page. Remove the footnote and all's well again.

The section break that begins the columned lines says Continuous and the page looks identical if that is changed to New Page. I don't see any description of this behavior anywhere.

    Thanks for any information.

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Yes, it is a bug. See MSKB article WD2002: Section Break Causes an Unexpected Page Break. And although you have only one footnote, it is probably related to the bug described in MSKB article WD: Page Breaks Incorrectly If You Insert a Continuous Section Break Between Footnotes.
