keeping zeros as first digit (2000)

We have some ID numbers that have zero as the first digit. They are fine in the table but the queries do not seem to like them. How do I keep them from disappearing in the query...I need the query to compare the first 2 numbers of the employee ID and the last 2 numbers of the company ID.
Thanks in advance for you help,

Re: keeping zeros as first digit (2000)

If the ID field is a number field, leading zeros are a matter of display format only, they are not stored in the field itself. You could use an expression such as Left(Format([ID],"00000"),2) to retrieve the first two digits of the formatted number (in this example, the length is 5, change to suit your situation.)
