    Document properties (Word 2000)

I am trying to find out how to track the history of a document. i.e. who has used a a word doc and when . I know that someone has written a macro for this I remember seeing something in the dodgy dossier article.

    Re: Document properties (Word 2000)

Welcome to Woody's Lounge. I don't know about a macro, but if you select "Recover Text from Any File" in the "Files of type" dropdown list in the Open dialog, and open a Word document, you will be able to see (some of) the metadata stored in a Word document, such as a list of the last ten or so users who edited the document.

Note: in Word 2002 and up, there is an option to remove this kind of information from a document when it is saved. Jefferson Scher posted a macro in <post#=277803>post 277803</post#> to get rid of this info in Word 2000.
